Dragonflies are most often found near water and usually remain within a few miles of the place where they hatched. As larva, they eat tadpoles or small fish. As an adult they will eat other small insects, primarily mosquitoes, and are considered useful for controlling the mosquito population.
Dragonflies can be any color and range in size by species from one to five inches. They go through three stages of development: egg, naiad (larval) and adult. The eggs are laid in water and typically hatch in two to three weeks. In the larval stage they are called a naiad. Th...
