Description
Photographic artwork of Cuba by Dawn Currie. The capital of Granma Province is Bayamo, the second oldest city in Cuba. Compared to other cities, the center is considered modern. This is due to the fact that in 1869 the townspeople set fire to their city rather than surrender it to advancing Spanish troops.
The streets are lined with colorful homes with unique and decorative grill work providing security in an impoverished area. Traffic is non-existent and there very few trees along the roads leading from the main square. These are the legacy of formerly wealthy owners that have moved on or faded into history.
