Willet (Tringa semipalmata). The Eastern Willet subspecies breeds breed in coastal saltmarshes and on barrier beaches and islands. They leave the continent entirely by fall. Western Willets visit our area in fall and winter. Eastern is slightly smaller, shorter-legged, with a shorter, thicker bill. They have more markings than the Western Willets in breeding plumage.
