Description
Photographic artwork by Dawn Currie. An American Bittern hiding in plain sight. A stocky and well-camouflaged heron of dense reed beds, the American Bittern is difficult to see. Usually secretive and hidden motionless the color and pattern of their plumage blend with the reeds in wetland habitats.
I discovered this bittern among the reeds one early morning at the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, also known as the Viera Wetlands.
