Description
Photographic digital art by Dawn Currie. Created from one of my original photographs, the detail in this colorful Northern Parula is enhanced through digital processing and drawing techniques. This little beauty was photographed in Turkey Creek Sanctuary during the spring migration. Warblers and other small songbirds are lovely to look at, and lovely to listen to, but they are exceptionally difficult to photograph in their environment. Their small size, quick speed, and dense habitat make it challenging. Practice, species knowledge, and perseverance pay off.

The Northern Parula (Setophaga americana) likes to hang out in the Spanish moss in out area. This bluish gray warbler with yellow highlights hops through branches bursting with a rising buzzy trill that pinches off at the end. Its white eye crescents, chestnut breast band, and yellow-green patch on the back set it apart from other warblers.
Special Edition Art Collection inspired by John James Audubon and others that have depicted the beauty of birds through drawings and illustrations, I have been working on a process to transform my photographs into drawings for over a decade. The result is reminiscent of pen and ink drawings and stippling techniques. These detailed images highlight the timeless beauty of these birds.
