Description
Photographic digital art by Dawn Currie. Created from one of my original photographs, the detail in this bright yellow Prairie Warbler is enhanced through digital processing and drawing techniques. This little beauty was photographed in Turkey Creek Sanctuary during the spring migration. Warblers and other small songbirds are lovely to look at, and lovely to listen to, but they are exceptionally difficult to photograph in their environment. Their small size, quick speed, and dense habitat make it challenging. Practice, species knowledge, and perseverance pay off.
The Prairie Warbler (Setophaga discolor) is a tail-wagging yellow warbler with black streaks down its sides. Don't be fooled by the name - it can be found in scrubby fields and forests throughout the eastern and south-central United States, not on the prairies.

Special Edition Art Collection inspired by John James Audubon and others that have depicted the beauty of birds through drawings and illustrations, I have been working on a process to transform my photographs into drawings for over a decade. The result is reminiscent of pen and ink drawings and stippling techniques. These detailed images highlight the timeless beauty of these birds.
