Description
Wildlife photograph by Dawn Currie - one of two images of a lovely Tricolored Heron in flight. Tricolored Herons (Egretta tricolor) is a slender heron adorned in blue-grey, lavender, and white. Although they are solitary foragers, they nest in colonies often with other herons and egrets. They use coastal estuaries, saltmarshes, mangroves, and lagoons during the breeding season. This heron is part of a large rookery in southern Brevard County, Florida, including Roseate Spoonbills, Great Egrets, Anhingas, Cattle Egrets, and others.
