Description
Photographic art by Dawn Currie. Portrait of a Meerkat searching the sky for potential predators. A favorite of many visitors to the Brevard Zoo, this colony is thriving. There is always at least one of the siblings on the lookout for raptors and ready to sound the alarm for his family to take cover if necessary.
Because they construct elaborate underground burrows, meerkats (Suricata suricatta) are typically found in areas with firmer soil. They are native to the deserts of Southern Africa.
