Sanderlings (Calidris alba) are identified by their pale nonbreeding plumage, black legs and bill, and obsessive wave-chasing habits. Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) is much larger than the Sanderling. This sandpiper has red-brown upperparts, white rump and underparts, a dark bill, and orange legs and feet.
