Description
Photographic artwork by Dawn Currie. Photograph of a Common Gallinule (also known as a Moorhen), taken at Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands in Viera Florida.
The most widely distributed member of the rail family, the Common Gallinule (Gallinula galeata) inhabits marshes and ponds from Canada to Chile, from northern Europe to southern Africa, and across Asia to the Pacific. Vocal and boldly marked, the species can be quite conspicuous, sometimes using its long toes to walk atop floating vegetation.
Listed as threatened or as a species of special concern in several Midwestern and Northeastern states because of loss of wetland habitat, predation by introduced mammals, and other factors.

Beautiful colors and reflection, Dawn, in this stunning Common Gallinule - Moorhen portrait! Informative description, too, calling attention to its plight. F/L

You and Morris posted these back to back. That's like being taken to the dance by Frank Sinatra and Rosemary Clooney! And the reason I know this is a glorious image is because I see these birds everywhere and am a bit sick of them. But you made them beautiful to me again! Your wonderful image has been featured by Wild Birds Of The World. L/F
