Description
Wildlife photography by Dawn Currie. A solitary Red-shouldered Hawk on the hunt for his morning meal. With wings spread wide he quietly glides over the field in search of unsuspecting prey. Photographed near Kenansville, Osceola County, Florida
Red-Shouldered Hawks (Buteo lineatus) are one of our most distinctively marked common hawks, in addition to their name-sake reddish-brown feathers on their shoulders, they have barred reddish-peachy underparts and a strongly banded tail.
